Wham! McCann, We're in a Jam

Accrington Stanley (A) - EFL League 2 - 26th December 2025

A winter's day.

In a deep and dark December.

In Accrington.

Gazing from my bus window to the streets below,

I've not a clue where this season will go.

I am a rock, I am an island.

Wayward balls

We've never played for ninety.

Too easy to penetrate.

The players look uncertain, the crowd is on their back.

We made a change and Whingy got the sack.

I am a rock, I am an island.

No change of plans

Though I've sympathy for the board.

Amid all the apathy.

I understand the gamble, if Macdonald gets the helm,

But rarely have we felt so underwhelmed.

I am a rock, I am an island.

And on our books

A struggling squad in need of surgery,

Perhaps no money to replace.

All looking complacent, but should really compete,

They rarely do and don't like Holker Street.

I am a rock, I am an island.

So let's think about the game

And think where the problems lie.

Hello darkness, my old friend,

We started poorly yet again.

Accrington simply got in our face,

Won second balls and we were out of shape.

Weak-minded football and midfielders without brains

Still remain.

Five hundred stood, in silence.

So yet again we battled back,

Played several minutes that weren't crap,

And then Whitfield swiftly skinned his man,

Hit Accy's post and there was Charles McCann.

So when half-time blew, we were relieved that the score's alright,

Though we'd been shite.

We hoped for some resilience.

Second half we started playing,

Our midfield got in the game.

Accy's wing-backs started getting turned,

Perhaps for once it had been lessons learnt.

Then a gilt-edged chance that Josh Gordon missed again,

Always the same.

McDonald thought in silence.

"Fools," he said, "I'll make more change,

As me and Paul's in their price range."

There was no respite for all Barrow fans

As sub Ben Jackson failed to track his man.

Spineless and we couldn't clear the ball,

No surprise at all.

Full-time we stood in silence.

Then our supporters booed and brayed,

Another mess that Barrow made,

And McDonald simply slunk away.

At least our captain came and had his say.

But the signs say no words from the owners about

What's up behind the scenes,

The hopes and dreams?

We whimper in the sounds of silence.
